Steve and Shelley Hines

Singer-Songwriter Steve Hines and Shelley Hines sing original acoustic Americana, Cowpoke, Folk, and Western Ballad songs featuring harmonies throughout. Steve's song-writing talent, rich voice, Shelley's natural gift for harmonizing and their tight vocals provide a unique musical experience.

Steve grew up in Pendleton, Oregon, the youngest of six children. His older brothers learned to play guitars in order to accompany their father, Ben, on the fiddle. Steve didn't get his turn playing guitar until his brothers left home. Guitar was his springboard to writing. He began writing at age twelve, drawing from artistic influences such as Jim Croche, Marty Robins, The Eagles, The Dirt Band and music styles from country, rock, and contemporary to cowboy songs. Life's everyday experiences of humanity inspire Steve's writing, pointing out the ridiculous, the painful, the poignant, the affable.

Shelley grew up singing in the basement with her piano-playing mom. So it was natural for Shelley to sing with Steve and his guitar. However, for their first performance together, in front of a couple of family members, Shelley's instructions were that they were not to look at her, while she sat with her back to them. She's come along way since then adding harmony and sometimes taking the lead.

Shelley and Steve play at many venues throughout the Northwest, including Folk Festivals, Cowboy Poetry Gatherings and open concerts. Completed recording projects include A Cause to Sing and Same Old Highway.
